# Assessment Proctoring
The **Assessment Proctoring** feature helps test creators identify potential instances of dishonesty during an assessment.
The feature monitors various test taker activities during an assessment, including navigation away from the assessment tab and the potential use of generative AI to produce responses. An additional feature of webcam monitoring, it also monitors webcam activity for events such as candidate switching, multiple candidates, face absence, and other potentially suspicious behavior.
### Enabling Assessment Proctoring
To enable Assessment Proctoring, a test creator should open the assessment they want to edit or create and navigate to the **Score Settings** tab. Set **Proctoring Enabled** to **On**. By default, this setting is disabled.
### Supported Features
The **Assessment Proctoring** feature has multiple functionalities to ensure fair, unbiased results, such as:
1. Tab switching: Records when a test taker clicks on, switches to, or views another browser tab during an assessment and writes a record of how many times this happened in the detailed report.
2. Generative AI based response detection: Uses Speechace's AI-based detection system to identify responses that may have been generated using generative AI. This feature is available for both speaking and writing assessments
3. Candidate [webcam proctoring](/speechace-speaking-test/speechace-workspaces-create-manage-and-share-speaking-assessments/assessment-proctoring/webcam-proctoring.md): Records the test taker's webcam video during the assessment by detecting events such as candidate switching, the presence of multiple candidates, and instances where the candidate’s face is outside the camera view. It can also identify suspicious head movements and other potentially unusual events based on the capabilities of the available image-analysis APIs. This enhanced feature provides an addtional layer of assessment integrity and monitoring.
### How It Works
When Assessment Proctoring is enabled, Speechace monitors test taker activity throughout the assessment. If a test taker clicks on, switches to, or views another browser tab while taking the assessment, Speechace records the event.
The **first time** a test taker leaves the assessment tab, they are shown a warning informing them that navigation away from the assessment has been detected.
After the assessment is complete, test creators and assessors can view the proctoring results on the **Results** page. Assessment Proctoring uses separate indicators to identify different types of activity. An **Orange** indicator identifies test takers who switched to or viewed another browser tab during the assessment, while a **Red** indicator identifies test takers whose responses were flagged by Speechace's AI-based detection as likely to have been generated using generative AI. If both tab switching and AI-generated responses are detected, the **Red** indicator is displayed. If neither event is detected, the proctoring indicator displays a **Green** check mark.
Detailed assessment reports include a **Proctor Analysis** section that provides additional information about the test attempt. This section includes details such as the number of times the test taker navigated away from the assessment tab, the total amount of time they spent away from the tab, and whether Speechace detected the use of generative AI. Proctoring results and the Proctor Analysis section are visible only to test creators and managers and are not accessible to test takers.
[**Webcam Proctoring**](/speechace-speaking-test/speechace-workspaces-create-manage-and-share-speaking-assessments/assessment-proctoring/webcam-proctoring.md) , an enhanced feature in **Assessment Proctoring,** adds an extra layer of monitoring by analyzing the candidate’s webcam feed for potential violations. This helps identify suspicious activity during the assessment.
