# Custom assessments

Custom Assessments allow test creators to build tailored evaluations for a wide range of use cases. Assessments can be designed to replicate standardized language proficiency exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE, or to evaluate communication and interpersonal skills through AI-powered conversation simulations.

Custom Assessments are available in two formats:

1. [**Speaking and Writing Assessments**](/speechace-speaking-test/speechace-workspaces-create-manage-and-share-speaking-assessments/creating-assessments/custom-assessments/speaking-and-writing-assessments.md) – Create assessments that mirror the structure and scoring of standardized language tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE. Using a rich editor, creators can configure a variety of question types, define scoring criteria, set maximum scores, and assign weights to individual questions.
2. [**Roleplay Assessments**](/speechace-speaking-test/speechace-workspaces-create-manage-and-share-speaking-assessments/creating-assessments/custom-assessments/roleplay-assessments.md) – Create AI-powered conversation simulations that evaluate soft skills such as customer service, sales, leadership, negotiation, and workplace communication. Creators can customize the conversation flow, interaction types, and number of exchanges to match specific assessment objectives.

The following sections describe how to design and configure each assessment type.
