Word Spelling
Word Spelling questions assess a test taker's ability to accurately spell a spoken word. During the assessment, the test taker listens to a word and responds by spelling it aloud. For example, a test taker may be asked to spell the word Rhythm.
Unlike most question types, the target word must be presented audibly, either through an uploaded audio or video recording or by an avatar.

Select Word Spelling from the list of available question types.
Enter instructions for the test taker in the Question field.

Question
Use the Question field to provide instructions for the test taker.
Example: Spell the word that is spoken.

Cue Cards
The Cue Cards field allows test creators to provide additional context for the test taker. Up to two cue cards can be added. Cue cards contain text by default but can be changed to images, audio clips, or video clips using the slider. This field is optional. However, test creators can upload an audio or video clip of the target word for the test taker to spell.

To learn more about cue cards, please review the Cue Cards user guide.
Word Spelling
Enter the target word that the test taker is expected to spell.
The Word Spelling section also includes the following options:
User must speak the word before and after spelling – Requires the response to follow the format: word → spelling → word.
Use pronunciation score as final score – Uses the pronunciation score as the final score for the question.

By default, the scoring mechanism is binary. If the spelling is correct, the maximum possible score is awarded. If the spelling is incorrect, a score of zero is awarded.
If Use pronunciation score as final score is selected and the test taker spells the word correctly, the pronunciation score is used as the final score instead of the maximum possible score.
Announcing the word to be spelled
One of the most important aspects of configuring this question type is ensuring that the test taker hears the target word before responding. There are two ways to present the target word:
Upload an audio cue card that pronounces the target word.

When this option is used, the test taker will get to hear word via the audio cue card as shown above.
Customize the avatar narration to direct the test taker on which word to speak via narrative text such as "Spell the word Rhythm". For more information on how to do this, see the Edit avatar page.

When this option the candidate will see the above interface during spelling and hear the avatar providing the directions.
