# Scoring with basic setup

Let us consider a simple assessment with 5 questions where no additional configurations such as [weights or max scores](/speechace-speaking-test/speechace-workspaces-create-manage-and-share-speaking-assessments/creating-assessments/create-new-custom-assessments/custom-assessment-configurations/weights-max-scores-timers.md) have been applied:

The score for such an assessment is calculated by taking a simple average of the score on all questions.

As an example, if the Speechace score of each question is 4.0, 3.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 4.0 out of 9.0 then the final assessment score will be 5.2 as per the calculation below:

$$
(4.0 + 3.0 + 7.0 + 8.0 + 4.0 )/5 = 5.2
