Record & Transcribe

Record and Transcribe questions capture audio or video response of a test taker without scoring the response. Furthermore, this question type can optionally transcribe the response in a specified language. You may utilize these questions types for the following purposes:

  • Warm-up questions that get the candidate in speaking mode without affecting their scores.

  • Manually evaluate language skills for languages that are currently not supported by the speaking test.

  • Evaluate a skill set other than language skills (e.g., empathy, teamwork, etc.).

Getting Started

To get started, do the following:

  1. Select the Record and Transcribe question type to display the associated configuration panel.

  2. Type the instructions for the test taker either in the Question field on the left or the Instruction field on the right.

Configuration Panel

The configuration panel for Record-only question type consists of the following elements:

Question Field

In this field, you provide instructions to the test taker in the form of an open-ended question. This helps provide clarity on the expected response even though the answer is not graded.

Transcription On / Off

To view a transcription of the test taker's response in the detailed report, switch ON the toggle shown in the image below. You can also choose the language in which you would want to see the text of the transcription. This makes it easier for you to review and analyze responses without having to listen to the audio each time.

Cue Cards Field

The Cue Cards field is where you can add extra context for your test-takers. You can upload one or two cue cards, which can be images, audio, or video clips. This is an optional field.
